• California's 2nd Congressional District contains much of the far north of the state of California, north of Sacramento.

• It is the largest district by area in California.

• The district covers all of Colusa, Glenn, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, and Yuba counties, as well as parts of Butte and Yolo Counties.

• The demographics are changing. The city of Chico in Butte County went blue in 2008 and the city of Weed in Siskiyou County holds a Democratic majority. Other counties within the current district boundary that are becoming more Democratic include Trinity County and Yuba County, which are both in a near-dead heat in registration.

• Raising only a token $30,000, the 2008 Democratic challenger needed only an 8% swing to win the election against Herger’s $1,256,000 campaign.
